At work — Swan/White Swan

Mommy/Bartender (which also includes treating people like children)

In general, what is your background?
I’m from the suburb of Hoffman Estates, the Hoffman Hawks if you will… went to the University of Iowa and also UIC here in Chicago. I’ve worked in the nightlife industry since 2008 which has always been good to me. I took a break from that only to focus on ballroom dance for a few years where I met my lovely extremist husband we all know and love.

How long have you been a member at our gym, how did you learn about CF and why did you start?
I started at 312 a little over a year ago. Shoutout to ‘Coach Matt’ -as he is referred to in our house – for doing one on ones with me in lieu of the 6am 101 class that we all knew I wouldn’t be getting up early for.

I finally stepped foot into the gym after a six month barrage of Andre trying to push me to drink the crossfit kool-aid and become a cult member. We had stopped dancing professionally and I needed a workout to match the intensity of that training, and I had no plans to curb the eating habits I had developed since, well, forever. I finally did it to shut him up along with the aforementioned deal of private sessions with Coach Matt.

How has being a member at 312 changed your life/lifestyle/level of fitness?
I have been able to maintain my eating habits which of course is a number one priority. I feel healthy and stronger than I ever have. I get genuine compliments from both men and women at my job which is a nice change from the typical “let’s hit on the bartender” verbiage.

Short term goals (gym and/or personal):
Personal — we will be buying a house within the next year.
Gym — get back to more days in the gym than out

Long term goals (gym and/or personal):
Personal — go back for that Masters degree
Gym — develop the upper body strength for a muscle up

What do you like most about being a member at 312?
I like the structured classes and the camaraderie. Yeah.

Favorite and least favorite movements:
love rowing…hate running

Favorite and least favorite WODs:
I guess I’m a bad cult member because I don’t know the names, but I like body weight movements the best.

Favorite post-WOD meal:
I’m a big proponent of avocado even where not appropriate

Favorite movies:
favorite all time is the 5th Element (this is a serious answer)

Favorite book:
Go The F*ck To Sleep, as read by Jennifer Garner

Favorite artist:
We listen to a lot of Kidz Bop

Favorite quote or words you live by?
Try Not To Suck

What are a few of your most notable achievements?
I’m the first in my family to have a college degree.

I’m passionate about:
My family, our health, and being the best human I can be…trying to be an example for my kid on how to live.

Fun fact that we don’t know about you:
1. I’m an only child
2. I’m missing an entire vertebra and disc in my back, which makes for a cool visual.
