Matthew Szenda has been around his own strength and conditioning coaches throughout his hockey career, which sparked his interest to get into the profession. As an athlete he experienced the importance of Olympic lifting and explosiveness — especially at the collegiate and semi-pro levels.
After his hockey career ended, Szenda graduated with a bachelor of science in kinesiology from the University of Illinois – Chicago.
After working on and coaching Olympic lifts for three years, his competitiveness kicked in again and he quickly discovered CrossFit.
“It was the people at Crossfit 312 that drew me in, and it didn’t take me long to figure out that it was group I wanted to be apart of. I love the feeling of pushing yourself to your limit and going through that with other people doing the same thing. It reminds me of the closeness of a true team or community, which is what I miss most about hockey. I am proud to be apart of the CrossFit 312 team!”
