Clinical psychologist

In general, what is your background?
I was born and raised in South Jersey to Haitian and Dominican parents. Although academics was #1 in my household, I ran track and played tennis in high school. I went to a small college (THE College of New Jersey) before I moved to Chicago in 2010 for grad school. I finally finished in 2016 and have been working in an outpatient autism clinic doing therapy and diagnostic evaluations. Grad school was a wild ride so I’m grateful that I can actually read a book for fun and spend time with my family.

How long have you been a member at our gym, how did you learn about CF and why did you start?
I’ve been a member since September 2017. I had just finished a fellowship in Indianapolis and was ready to move back to Chicago. I knew that I needed to commit to fitness then, or it wouldn’t become part of my routine. I was open to anything that would take the guesswork out of programming, and luckily, CF312 was right between work and home!

How has being a member at 312 changed your life/lifestyle/level of fitness?
CrossFit has been a really humbling experience, and I suspect it will be that way for a while. Sometimes these workouts are straight up disrespectful. But, I noticed I’ve become way more resilient to the “I can’t do it” or “they’re so much more X than me” mentality which is so huge for me personally and professionally.

Short term goals (gym and/or personal):
TTB, double unders, strict pullups, go to my first Vipassana retreat

Long term goals (gym and/or personal):
completing workouts Rx!! travel to Africa

What do you like most about being a member at 312?
The energy at the gym is positive, exciting, and intense in a fun way. I have appreciated every piece of advice and encouragement I’ve gotten from coaches and other members. I am also in awe of the badass feats of strength and skill I see every day in the gym! I wanna be just like y’all!

Favorite: wallballs
Least favorite: snatch

Favorite: medium-length WODs with running or rowing
Least favorite: burpees at the top of the minute

Summer–grilled BBQ chicken with tomato and burrata salad; Winter–spiced chicken thighs and roasted sweet potatoes

Rocky I through IV, Black Panther, Dumb & Dumber, Coming to America

Beloved by Toni Morrison; Harry Potter series

What are a few of your most notable achievements?
Earning my Ph.D. but hoping to add more to this list!

Equal access to mental health services, Wawa hoagies, houseplants (I’d like to have a garden someday), new music, tacos & tamales
