June 2018 – Brian Germain
“Brian’s one of the hardest workers at 312. He never gives up and rarely misses class (does this guy sleep here?) But seriously, when he isn’t crushing workouts, he’s volunteering to participate in 312 events like the CrossFit Open Face-offs. He’s brave, and tough, and really good looking.” – Coach Mike Z

In general, what is your background?
Grew up in Michigan, Went to Michigan State University, Moved to Chicago after college and never left (pretty much)
How long have you been a member at our gym, how did you learn about CF and why did you start?
Been at 312 for about 4.5 years. I heard about CF through Mike Z. After relentlessly giving Mike a hard time for flipping tires and climbing ropes, he convinced me to come check it out. After my first workout I had to crawl to a corner and lay there for an hour because I temporarily lost all motor skills and my legs completely locked up, but I was hooked.
How has being a member at 312 changed your life/lifestyle/level of fitness?
This place has pushed me harder than I would have ever done on my own. It turns out that bench press and bicep curls 4 days a week is not the most effective workout plan. The gym has also introduced me to some incredible people and made some lifelong friends.
Short term goals (gym and/or personal):
Handstand Walk and beat Mike Z in a WOD
Long term goals (gym and/or personal):
Clean and Jerk 275# and beat Mike Z in multiple WODs
What do you like most about being a member at 312?
The people… and not thinking about external stresses while I’m there because I’m busy focusing on not dying.
Favorite and least favorite movements:
Favorite: Muscle Ups and Cleans
Least: HSPU and Burpees
Favorite and least favorite WODs:
Favorite: The games workout this year with Bar Muscle Ups and the clean ladder.
